Help Make the St Johns Bizarre Great!
This amazing event doesn’t happen on it’s own: it takes involvement from people like you! Click this button to help out:
Thanks for your interest in volunteering for this year’s St. Johns Bizarre! Your time and effort are greatly appreciated, though we know you will also have a great time! Plus, for 1-2 hours of your time, you can choose one of the following rewards: 1) Two refreshment tickets; 2) Two $5 craft-fair vendor coupons; 3) 50%-off original-artwork, 2013 Bizarre poster-print; or 4) 50%-off original-artwork, 2013 Bizarre T-Shirt. Supportland will also be providing free points to all volunteers! Smiles, hi-5′s, good jokes (most of us are funny) and bad jokes (but not everyone) are also complimentary.
We need around 74 volunteers from the community to help make this wonderful event happen. Most of the work takes place before or after the actual events – so you won’t’ miss out on all the fun.
Here’s a sampling of what we need:
Street Closer Prep 6-7:30pm (Friday): The evening before the event, cover the parking signs in the Bizarre street-closure areas with City of Portland Bureau of Transportation “No Parking” bags. Duct-tape and a step-ladder will be provided. Please arrive 10 minutes before your shift, at St. Johns Plaza Clock.
Vendor Load-In Assistance 7:30-9:30am (Saturday): Help craft craft vendors unload their materials, watch over their products while they park their vehicles, and anything else needed to keep traffic moving. Hand-truck and/or cart will be provided.
Bier Garten Set-Up 8-10am (Saturday): Set-up the infrastructure for the Bier Garten, including bamboo & fabric decorations, carrying barricades for Bier Garten walls, and helping Occidental Brewing set up the bier service.
Kids Creation Station 12-2pm or 2-4pm (Saturday): Facilitate craft activities for children ages 2-10. All materials are provided by the Bizarre. The folks at Swap and Play are coordinating the KCS once again this year. Please wear clothes that you won’t mind getting a bit messy
Bizarro Floater (various times throughout the day on Saturday): Want to float around and chip-in where we need you? Maybe we’ll need an extra pair of hands in moving something. Maybe you’ll fill-in for a bathroom-break. Maybe one of the Supreme Council members will require constant fanning from the sweltering heat. We don’t know right now, but we will need you nonetheless! The only extra perk we can offer you is an additional hi-5, or 2. More details to follow, once you sign-up.
Downtown General Clean-Up 12-2pm (Sunday): The day after the Bizarre, clean up any aftermath (that wasn’t cleaned up the night before). Generally, this includes picking up the plaza area, taking a stroll down Lombard to troll for stray garbage and/or getting any barricade equipment back to it’s pick-up location for Monday.
If none of the above sounds interesting to you – visit VolunteerSpot and sign up for one of the many other positions we have available. We appreciate anything you can do to help make this year’s St Johns Bizarre a success!
